Team #52885 Panda Bots is more than a robotics team. They are a group of passionate, hardworking, all home-schooled students who have poured their hearts into learning, growing, and creating together. For many of these students, this season was a huge leap — half of the team is new to FIRST LEGO League. Even so, they stepped into the challenge with courage, determination, and a willingness to learn.

What they have accomplished is remarkable.

Through countless hours of teamwork, problem-solving, testing, rebuilding, and trying again, Panda Bots earned 2nd place at the State Championship and have now earned the right to participate in the WAFFLE FIRST Championship in Massachusetts, where they will have the incredible opportunity to compete against teams from around the world. This is an amazing achievement and a reflection of just how much these students have grown, not only as a team, but as young engineers and innovators.

But Panda Bots is about more than just robots.

This team worked closely with archaeologists to design a prototype for an automatic soil sifter, applying what they are learning in robotics to a real-world problem. These students are experiencing the engineering process in a meaningful way — asking questions, identifying needs, brainstorming ideas, designing solutions, testing prototypes, and improving their work. They are learning that engineering is not just something in a textbook or in the robotics field. It is something that can make a real difference in the world.

That is what makes this team so special.

These kids are not only building robots. They are building confidence. They are learning how to work together, how to solve hard problems, how to communicate ideas, and how to keep going when things do not work the first time. They are discovering that they are capable of more than they thought possible.

Now they have the opportunity to take that hard work to the next level at the WAFFLE FIRST Championship in Massachusetts, where they will represent not only their community, but Utah and the United States, while competing with teams from across the globe.
