Help Pancho Walk Again
My name is Karen, and I am asking for your support to help save my beautiful boy, Pancho.
On 26 February 2026, Pancho was diagnosed for the third time with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) a serious spinal condition where a ruptured disc presses against the spinal cord, causing extreme pain and risking permanent paralysis.
An MRI has confirmed significant spinal cord compression. Despite trying conservative treatment, his condition deteriorated quickly. The only option left to relieve his pain and give him the chance to walk again is urgent spinal surgery.
IVDD surgery involves removing the disc material compressing the spinal cord. When performed promptly, many dogs have a strong chance of recovery. Without it, the damage can become permanent.
The Cost of Saving His Mobility
The total estimated cost of Pancho’s treatment is between $12,000 and $17,000 AUD, including:
• $3,000 MRI (already completed)
• $9,000–$10,000 Spinal decompression surgery
• $1,500–$4,000 Post-operative rehabilitation and care
He is being treated at Animal Referral Hospital Sinnamon Park.
What Recovery Will Require
Recovery is not simple or quick. It will involve:
• 6–8 weeks of strict crate rest
• Carrying and supporting him to toilet
• Pain medication and anti-inflammatories
• Assisted movement and physiotherapy
• Constant supervision to prevent re-injury
For weeks, he will rely entirely on me for even the smallest movements.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Pancho is only seven years old. He is gentle, affectionate, and full of life. Watching him in pain and unable to move has been heartbreaking.
He has already undergone two major surgeries in the past years, and I am still recovering financially from those expenses. I am single, living far from family support, and currently working part-time casual hours while doing everything I can to keep a stable home for me and my two dogs.
I do have pet insurance, but due to previous claims, I am uncertain how much will be covered this time.
Anyone who knows me knows I would exhaust every option before asking for help. I would do anything for him and today, that means reaching out to my community.
Every Contribution Matters
Any donation, no matter the amount, brings Pancho closer to surgery and a real chance at walking again. If you cannot donate, sharing this page would mean more than you know.
Pancho still has so much life ahead of him. With timely surgery and proper recovery care, he has a genuine chance to return to a happy, mobile, pain-free life.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us during this incredibly difficult time.
With gratitude,
Karen, Pancho & Cisco
