Help Pamela Achieve Her Milan Internship

My name is Pamela Vazquez, I am in my second year at Skyline College, studying Business Administration. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

When I discovered the incredible opportunity to study and intern in Milan, I immediately applied for the program and the Gilman Scholarship. I poured my heart into both applications, knowing that this experience could be a crucial opportunity toward my dream of attending Stanford or UC Berkeley to study Business Administration.

This internship will give me hands-on experience that makes my application stronger. It will let me work with professionals, gain real-world business skills, and learn in a global environment. Milan is one of the world’s most important business bases, and getting this experience will set me up for success. This opportunity could change my life. I just need a little help to make it happen.

To my joy, I was accepted into the Milan internship program! I followed all the required steps, and when it came time to pay, I was confident that I would receive the Gilman Scholarship to cover my costs. However, as a full-time student at Skyline College working only a few hours a week at minimum wage, I didn't have the means to pay the program fees and travel expenses on my own. My father, who is in his 60s, also wasn’t able to help financially due to his limited income and personal financial struggles. The rest of my family lives in Mexico, and although they are emotionally supportive, they simply cannot contribute financially.

Seeing how determined I was, my grandmother shared my story with a close friend of hers. Believing in me, he generously lent me the money I needed for my flight and program fees, trusting that I would repay him once I received the Gilman Scholarship. Unfortunately, despite all my effort and confidence, I was not selected as a recipient. The news was devastating, as I had fully planned my finances around securing the scholarship.

Now, I face a significant financial gap in repaying the loan and covering essential expenses during my internship, such as food and transportation while living in Milan. This internship is a life-changing opportunity, and I am committed to making the most of it but I need support to make it possible.
