Hello everyone!

I'm Pamela Martinez, from Medellin, Colombia, I graduated from Criminalistics in 2020. I've always wanted to study overseas, I applied to study the Criminology Master in six* universities (Lancaster, Essex, Surrey, Sheffield, Durham, and Leicester), and was fortunate enough to have been accepted in all of them.

I'm really grateful, this gives me the great opportunity to broaden my education in the UK, and this will allow me to have a better chance in the field.

 

I developed a great interest in forensic psychology and criminology during my Criminalistics degree. As for extracurricular activities, I had the opportunity to participate as a speaker at research workshops, and I also received a social mention in recognition of my institutional commitment and the social impact of my research in the area of forensic science and criminalistics.

 

I have chosen to study for a master's at the University of Surrey. Gender-based violence has been one area of study that I would like to explore more, especially Coercive Control, which is a pattern of behaviours that can lead to femicide, and that only four countries have criminalized, and England is at the forefront of this.

In Colombia, in 2020 there were 630 femicides, and, due to the pandemic, there has been a spike in domestic violence and violence toward women. And this is why I would like to specialize in this subject and commit to being an advocate and expert in the area.

As an international student, I am able to work up to 20 hours per week, due to a student visa, which will help me with the cost of living. Recently I received a scholarship, which will be a partial fee waiver tuition, I will still need to fulfil the rest of the tuition and living expenses.

 

I would like to help fund the cost of the tuition, which is $23,274 USD ($19,200 GBP), and accommodation, I would have to spend around $15,800 USD ($12,010 GBP).

Hola, soy Pamela Martinez de Medellín, Colombia, me gradué de Criminalística en 2020. Siempre he querido estudiar en el exterior, apliqué para estudiar la maestría en Criminología en seis* universidades en Reino Unido (Lancaster, Essex, Surrey, Sheffield, Durham, y Leicester), y fui lo suficientemente afortunada en haber sido acepatada en todas.

Me siento muy agradecida, porque esto me permite abrir mis horizontes, mejorar mi educación, y tener un mejor futuro en el campo.

 

Durante mi carrera, desarrollé un gran interés por la psicología forense y la criminología. En cuanto a actividades extracurriculares, tuve la oportunidad de participar como ponente en semilleros de investigación, y también obtuve una mención social como reconocimiento a mi compromiso institucional y la muestra del impacto social de investigación en el área de criminalística y ciencias forenses.

 

He escogido estudiar la maestría en la Universidad de Surrey. La violencia de género ha sido una de las áreas de estudio que quisiera explorar más, especialmente el Control coercitivo - este es un patrón de conducta que puede llever a feminicidios, y que tan solo cuatro países han tipificado, e Inglaterra es pionero.

En Colombia en el 2020 hubo 630 feminicidios, y debido a la pandemia hubo un aumento en la violencia doméstica y la violencia hacia las mujeres. Y por esta razón quiero especializarme en este campo y me comprometo a ser una defensora y experta área.

Como estudiante internacional, se me permite trabajar hasta 20 horas por semana, por la visa de estudiante, esto me permitirá ayudarme con el costo de vida. Hace poco recibí una beca, es una parcial al costo de la matrícula, igual tendré que recoger el resto del dinero de la matrícula y costos de vida.

 

Quisiera al menos alcanzar los costos de matrícula, los cuales son $23,274 USD ($19,200 GBP), y para el alojamiento tendría que gastar alrededor de $15,800 USD ($12,010 GBP).
