My sister Pam’s world changed in a way none of us could have imagined. She was found alone in her apartment after a terrible accident, unable to move or feel her legs below her knees. She had been trapped for nearly 24 hours. By the time paramedics reached her, the damage was done — she had lost all blood flow below her knees.
Since then, Pam has endured 5 surgeries, skin grafts, and over 40 days in the hospital. Doctors don’t believe she will ever regain feeling in her legs below her knees. She is now learning how to live life in a wheelchair, one painful, exhausting day at a time.
Pam has always been fiercely independent. She cared for our parents in their later years, showed up for others without hesitation, and never asked for anything in return. Now, she is facing the hardest chapter of her life — and for the first time, she needs help.
The financial reality is overwhelming. Insurance stopped covering her rehab long before she was ready to return home. She has been moved to an assisted living home with no financial support, and she urgently needs help with:
- Assisted living costs which includes $4500/month for semi-private room.
- Medical copays and transportation costs for ongoing medical appointments
- Extensive Physical therapy and Occupational therapy out of pocket expenses
- A wheelchair and essential medical equipment (i.e. shower chair, toilet chair, slide board, others). Pam’s Ankle-Foot Orthosis boot for drop foot cost $550.
- Basic living expenses while Pam is unable to safely return home.
These are not optional comforts — they are the tools she needs to stay safe, continue healing, and rebuild her independence.
Despite everything she has endured, Pam continues to fight. She shows up to therapy. She pushes through her fear, anxiety and physical pain to make progress towards her independence. Pam has faced many emotions throughout this journey, but her strong belief that God will guide her through this remains unshaken.
Pam believes she can build a new life. But she cannot do it alone.
If you’re able to help — even a small amount such as $10 makes a big difference — it would mean more than you know. And if you can’t donate, sharing this post could be the reason someone else sees it and decides to help. We will keep you posted on Pam’s progress going forward.
Please keep Pam in your prayers and in your heart. She needs all the love, strength, and support she can get right now. Thank you for lifting her up during the hardest chapter of her life.
