Pam is my friend from school, and she’s someone I’ve always admired for her creativity, kindness, and resilience; I watched her go through chemo and finish school like an absolute champ. She even bounced back when not long after that, she broke both her hip and her arm. She’s smart, funny, and has a big heart, especially for her two elderly dogs, Kira and Lucy.
Right now, Pam is facing a crisis that could happen to any of us. She lost her job in November and, despite her best efforts to find work (including taking on grocery delivery) she hasn’t been able to find a job or earn enough to cover her expenses. She’s been unable to pay rent for several months and is now in danger of being evicted on April 1st, just one week away.
If Pam is evicted, not only will she and her dogs lose their home, but it will also make it nearly impossible for her to find housing again, even if she secures a job. Landlords rarely approve applicants with an eviction record, and the thought of Pam and her dogs ending up in a shelter without her dogs or on the street with them is heartbreaking. The vast majority of shelters don't allow dogs, so Lucy and Kira would have nowhere safe to go either way.
I want to help Pam stay housed so she can get back on her feet, find a job, and keep her little family together. All funds raised will go directly toward paying back rent, late fees, and hopefully a couple more months of rent to give Pam time to land a full-time job. If we’re fortunate enough to exceed our goal, extra funds will help with basic needs like utilities, medical bills, pet food, groceries, veterinary care, and insurance bills.
It's so much easier to keep a person housed than it is to get them housed once they've been evicted. Please consider helping Pam and her dogs stay in their home. I know money is tight for everyone right now, but any amount can make a huge difference for someone on the brink of homelessness. Your support means the world to Pam, Kira, Lucy, and me. Thank you for caring.
