Pam Fritz has always been someone who gives back to her community. As a former public school teacher in the Union Parish School District, she spent more than 30 years shaping young minds all over Union Parish, Louisiana.
Outside the classroom, Pam is known for her big heart—especially when it comes to animals. She’s an unofficial cat rescuer in Union Parish, especially the Spencer area, taking in strays and making sure they get the medical care and love they need to thrive. She's always worked closely with Union Humane Society.
Recently, Pam faced a major setback. After a second failed hip replacement, she developed bacteremia and has been hospitalized in Monroe, Louisiana. Her recovery has been slow and challenging, and she’s been in the hospital since Dec. 1, 2025. After that, she'll spend time at a rehabilitation facility to regain mobility enough to go home and be with her kitties.
While Pam’s medical expenses are covered, she’s now facing a different kind of debt: she owes her house sitter, who has been caring for her beloved cats while she’s away. Pam’s "hired cat angel," who wishes to remain anonymous, has been traveling back and forth, making sure the cats are fed, given their medicine, and kept safe.
Pam’s fixed income and savings have already been stretched thin to cover some of these costs, but she simply can’t manage the rest on her own.
Pam’s spirits remain high—she jokes with the nurses and stays as positive as she can, even when things are tough.
In Pam’s own words: “At least I have no food or gas to buy for myself. Cat food and cat supplies are already out of my normal budget. My housesitter sends me pics every day! Yesterday, a video of Hemingway and Bella, who still hide from her. I got teary-eyed in a good way!”
“This rehab has gone so slowly. It’s frustrating, but I try and stay nauseatingly positive. I make the nurses laugh ... at least 50 percent of them anyway,” she added.
Now, Pam needs a little help from her friends, family, and anyone who knows her from church, school, or the community.
Your support, no matter the amount, will help ease her burden and make sure her cats continue to receive the care they need.
Thank you for being there for Pam in this difficult time.
