Help Paloma Recover From Covid and Graduate
Donation protected
Paloma and her mother both came down with Covid-19 and lost their jobs. As a result of losing their jobs they are now facing several months of unpaid rent, eviction and the need to find a way to pay the last three payments needed for Paloma to graduate college with a degree in design. Paloma is not eligible for any rent assistance, Covid relief related money or stimulus checks or even eviction protection because she and her mother moved back to Mexico so that she could attend design school. I am handling this fundraiser for Paloma because while teaching at North High School in Denver I had her as a student for four years and mentored her during a design internship that resulted in her career aspirations. Paloma was a dedicated student and has remained in touch with me as she has pursued her college degree. She reached out recently because she was desperate for advice, incredibly stressed out and deeply depressed. She has struggled to find meaning as her troubles have continued to weigh her down.
I want to raise money to relieve Paloma of some of her financial burdens and allow her to get the certificate that goes with the graduation photos she took earlier this year in anticipation of her degree and ceremony. Paloma plans to graduate with a degree in design and has already interviewed for several jobs. She even has an employer interested in hiring her once she gets her degree in May. All of this progress is in jeopardy if she cannot pay her college tuition, relieve some of her stress about having a home to live in by paying her back rent and addressing the basic needs she and her mother have. She is currently working as an English tutor for small amounts of money to get by each week but has struggled to find new employment. With eviction a real possibility, Paloma needs help urgently. We hope that you find her story compelling you will reach out and donate whatever you are able to. We also hope that anyone in the North Denver community might feel compelled to support one of their most dedicated students.
