My name is Ahmed Naim, a 5th-year medical student at Al-Azhar University (AUG) in Gaza. My lifelong dream has always been to become an Orthopedic Surgeon—to heal, to restore mobility, and to serve my community.
Before the war, our lives were filled with love, stability, and the pursuit of knowledge. Today, that reality feels like a distant memory. When the invasion began, we were forced to flee our home in Northern Gaza.
I will never forget the last five minutes I spent in my room. I stood there, trying to soak in every detail—my books, my personal belongings, the memories of everyone I love. I gazed at everything one last time, knowing in my heart I might never see them again. I left with nothing but the clothes on my back, unable to carry even the smallest piece of my past.
We left behind our family home, our primary source of income—our family pharmacy—and my medical textbooks. The loss is total. My university was destroyed, our pharmacy is in ruins, and the sense of safety we once had is gone
Despite the loss of my university, I could not stand idle. I have been volunteering my time as a medical student in local hospitals, working side-by-side with doctors to treat the wounded. Even without a classroom, the hospital has become my teacher, and every patient I help reminds me why my dream of becoming a surgeon must stay alive.I trained and volunteered throughout the entire war with the amazing American and Australian team.
I never expected that one day we would literally lose everything. The house that my father sought to build throughout his life was destroyed in moments
( my home before)
And here it is after
This is a picture when Isr@eli tanks surrounded the house
and became a shelter in a tent made of wood and a cover that did not protect from the cold and rain..
And our main source of income, which was our pharmace , which could barely afford to pay the expensive medical school fees, household expenses, etc.... It was burned by the Isr@eal @rmy
Despite all this fear and suffering from bombing and displacement from one place to another and ,I have become more fearful and anxious about my future and I realized I have lost my dream and lost hope that a i will become Doctor one day , and now t have the responsibility to save the high university costs, and support my family rebuilding their lives if we remain alive
The funds will be used for
-First, it will support us with the cost of displacement and basic living needs, which have become painfully difficult because of war, siege, rising prices, and the loss of our livelihood.
-Second, it will help me pay my overdue medical school tuition, so I can continue my education and reach graduation. Becoming a doctor is not only my dream, but also the hope my family holds onto and the way I hope to serve patients who desperately need care.
New Financial Report
Date: 20/04/2026
Most of the funds raised were used to cover displacement costs and my family’s essential needs during these extremely difficult circumstances in the bast 2 years
. Now, my hope is to direct the remaining and future support toward paying my medical school tuition, so I can continue my education and not lose the years I have worked so hard for.
-If you know of any organization that might be willing to support my tuition through a financial grant, they are very welcome to contact the university directly and pay the amount to the university account as tuition fees.
I would like to inform you that the donations will be received by my relative in Belgium, as GoFundMe currently only supports bank accounts in Europe and the United States.
He will then transfer your donations to us through trusted transfer methods such as PayPal or Western Union.
If you would like to ask about anything or verify any details, I would be happy to respond
I will keep you updated about my education i reach.
Sincerely
Ahmed A S Naim
