We often talk about the incredible dedication of nurses: the long hours, the compassion, the way they show up for others on their worst days. But sometimes, it’s the nurse who needs us to show up for her.

Meet Paige. She’s a nurse at The Mazankowski Heart Institute, where she spends her days caring for the most vulnerable patients. She’s the kind of person who gives everything to help others heal; and now, it’s her turn to fight.

This February, Paige received a life-changing diagnosis: leukemia. However, thanks to the sharp eyes and loving concern of her family, colleagues and friends, Paige’s team was able to initiate testing and treatment promptly.

This past week Paige endured her first round of chemotherapy. She has been such a champion through it all but, it has been extremely physically and emotionally exhausting, even more so because this is not Paige’s first major medical obstacle. Around this time last year, Paige had to travel out of the country to receive specialized invasive endometriosis surgery.

This has been an extremely difficult transition for Paige, from being the nurse to becoming the patient. Despite this, she remains a loving partner, devoted daughter, and cherished friend to so many. Recently, Paige and her partner, Johnny, celebrated the purchase of their first home together, an exciting milestone in their lives. This past year, Johnny also began his Master’s program to become a Nurse Practitioner. Throughout this time, Paige has served as the primary source of income, supporting their shared dreams and future.

We are raising funds to help ease the financial burden Paige and Johnny are now facing as they navigate this unexpected and life-altering cancer diagnosis. As Paige steps away from work to focus on treatment and healing, the loss of her income creates a significant financial strain. Your support will help to cover essential living expenses, medical-related costs, and will provide stability for Paige and Johnny during this tremendously difficult time.

Once Paige is in remission, there is a strong possibility she will need to relocate outside of Edmonton to undergo a stem cell transplant. This would bring additional travel, accommodation, and treatment-related expenses.
