I’m writing on behalf of Pablo, my dear friend and former partner, and his wife, Xenia.

Pablo was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. A few weeks ago, he underwent emergency surgery, and this week he is beginning radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

Anyone who knows Pablo loves him for how easy he is to be around. He always has a smile on his face, a joke to share, a hug ready, and a listening ear or shoulder to lean on. Pablo loves sports, his friends and family, and above all, his wife Xenia, who has been by his side with incredible strength and support through all of this. He truly knows how to enjoy the simple and beautiful things in life: a good meal with friends or family, a meaningful conversation, a night out, a camping trip, or simply cuddling on the couch at the end of the day.

Pablo received his citizenship only two years ago, and he and Xenia got married last summer. This year, the news should have been about Xenia getting her citizenship, a new job, or even a pregnancy. Instead, this young couple received the devastating news that Pablo has a stage 4 tumor growing in his skull.

Far away from their families in Spain, Pablo and Xenia are now facing the enormous challenge of adapting to this new reality. They are doing it with love, strength, and courage, but the reality is that cancer involves much more than the treatments themselves. Travel expenses, medication, therapies to help with side effects, sperm freezing before chemotherapy, and future rehabilitation costs are expensive and not fully covered by MSP.

Asking for help is one of the hardest things they have had to do, but with your support, they can focus on what matters most right now: helping Pablo get through treatment and recovery.
