Help Ozzy Recover After a Violent Dog Attack

Hi everyone,

My name is Kim, and I’m writing to share the heartbreaking story of my beloved dog, Ozzy.

In the early morning hours of May 2nd, around 3:00 AM, I was walking to a nearby corner store in Brooklyn to grab some essentials. With me was Ozzy, my 16-year-old Maltese-Shih Tzu mix. Due to his age and mobility issues, we usually carry him once he finishes his walk. At the time of the incident, Ozzy was in my boyfriend’s arms while I stepped into the store for a moment.

As my boyfriend, Ozzy and I turned the corner on our block, we were unexpectedly met by two huskies, tied to a fence but completely unattended. Without warning, one of the huskies lunged, grabbed Ozzy by the head, pulled him from his arms, and slammed him onto the concrete.

The impact was horrifying—we heard a loud crack, and Ozzy let out a piercing scream. My boyfriend immediately tried to pry the husky’s jaws open as I rushed to help. When we finally freed Ozzy, one of his eyes was hanging from its socket. He was shaking, bleeding, and in severe pain.

At that moment, the owners of the huskies walked out of the nearby store. Instead of helping or showing concern due to their negligence of their unattended dogs, they blamed us for being near their dogs and casually walked away with smiles on their faces, leaving us in shock and despair dealing with the horrifying aftermath ourselves.

We rushed Ozzy to the emergency vet, where he underwent emergency surgery to remove his eye and treat his injuries. The medical bills alone have reached $5,000 so far, as we have to take into consideration of his future treatments. We’re also facing lawyer fees while we try to find the irresponsible owners and hold them accountable. We've currently filed a police report, contacted a lawyer, and are working with the ASPCA to ensure justice is served.

This experience has been incredibly traumatic—for Ozzy, and for all of us who love him. At 16, he’s fragile, but he’s a fighter. We are doing everything we can to make sure he heals comfortably and safely so he can have a better quality of life during his last years, and also very importantly, so that no one else experiences this kind of horror.
