Calling all Superheroes!
Four-year old Owen Cosgrove has an ouchie and is in need of a superhero!
While every child dreams of meeting a superhero, few realize that meeting a superhero usually means you need help. Now is that time for little Owen Cosgrove. On behalf of John Cosgrove (dad), JoAnna Heneghan (mom), and three siblings, Noah, Cailyn and Evelyn, we are reaching out to our family, friends, community and network to help Owen in his sudden battle to fight lymphoma.
Who is OWEN?
Owen is an Optimist. He is a Warrior. He is Energy. He is Nonnegotiable.
Owen is the second eldest of four children. He loves Blue Yoshi, snuggles with mom and dad and running around with all of his siblings and cousins. The light in his eyes and the music in his laugh are glimpses into the magic of childhood. He is love. He is loved. He is in need.
The Story of Owen’s Ouchie
Owen underwent surgery the week of 2/11 to remove part of his intestine due to complications thought to be the result of intussusception. After undergoing a successful surgery, it was thought that Owen would be returning home to celebrate Valentine's Day with his mom, dad, brother and sisters. Sadly, the whole family was shocked to learn that he had been diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma and would need to be immediately transferred to Lurie's Children's Hospital in Chicago for more testing.
The Evil Villian: Burkitt’s Lymphoma:
Burkitt's Lymphoma is an uncommon type of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma that commonly affects children. It is a highly aggressive type of B-cell lymphoma that often starts and involves body parts other than lymph nodes. In spite of its fast-growing nature, Burkitt’s lymphoma is often curable with modern intensive therapies. We are asking for help to ensure that Owen has access to all of the treatments he needs to make his battle and recovery go as smoothly as possible. His family is asking for donations to help cover both his medical treatment and other related expenses.
A superhero in his own right, Owen is not being treated for cancer, but rather embarking on his road to recovery. Please join him on that road!
While we all may not be able to physically reach out and "kiss the boo-boo," please do what you can to be the superhero Owen is dreaming of to help clear the way to his recovery!
Thank you all for you love, prayers, and support.
Owen is lucky to have such a great team of heroes behind him.
