Hi, my name's Owen. While it's not my first instinct, I'm asking for help for my situation.
A couple months back I lost my job and have not been able to find a new one in my field in the current market. After losing it, I made a couple last dumb purchases to get it out of my system, did the math, pulled some of my savings, and figured I would get along in the meantime with unemployment and doing UberEats deliveries (as my unemployment payments do not cover all of my bills and are barely over minimum wage). For a while it seemed very doable and comfortable given the circumstances, and I was ready to float on until an opportunity materialized.
That situation has been complicated as on April 28th, my car was totaled in an accident, where the other party took a right at a stop sign without yielding for oncoming traffic. I really loved this car, it was my first "enthusiast" vehicle but also an incredibly reliable and comfortable daily companion that made doing pizza deliveries and gig work way less of a grind. For anyone who knows my area, getting by without a car can be very difficult. I relied on my car not just for my own transportation and income, but to help out friends and be there for the community events I help run. While I've been selling some of my belongings, emptying my savings, and received an insurance payout from the other party, it's still not adding up to enough to keep myself afloat and find another reliable means of transportation safely. I could get a beater car that moves, but I think that would just cause further problems sooner, and at the moment, my credit score is not nearly good enough to try and lease or borrow for a car (at least without a considerably large down payment). The auto market simply isn't what it was when I got my car back during COVID.
The last few months of my life have been very humbling and exhausting and I'm looking to get back on my feet. I'd be incredibly grateful for any help with this situation, funds would go to paying bills and insurance/registration after saving to get a reliable vehicle I could ideally keep and enjoy for as long as I had my prior car, or longer.
