My name is Noah Nordstrom. I am a Spanish teacher at Overton High School in Memphis, TN. This Tuesday, September 30, we are putting on our school’s first Hispanic Heritage Talent show and festival.

Per school policy, this event must be ticketed. Unfortunately, many students cannot afford to buy tickets to the show even though they are only $3. Regrettably, Memphis has one of the highest poverty rates in the country. Many students face housing and food insecurity.

We refuse to let poverty be a barrier to celebrating our Hispanic students and their cultures. We are determined to raise $3,000 so that every student at our school can take part in this celebration.
