Support Recovery Journey After Severe Leg Injury
Donation protected
About 4 months ago, in a wildly freak accident, I broke both bones in my lower leg and one of those silly bones even came out of my skin. That day they reset my bones in the ED and the following morning, I had surgery to insert a rod into my tibia and screws to hold it in place in my ankle and knee. They also irrigated my leg to be sure no infection got into my bone that had made an appearance to the world.
This has left me without any stream of income at all or any ability to make money. After 4 months of going through my savings and scraping together what I could from family, I now need to ask my community for some help.
While I still have some ongoing help from family, unfortunately, they (understandably) cannot provide enough to cover all of my necessary expenses.
As of now, I cannot drive or even walk to the bus station and have to Uber or Lyft everywhere I have to go, from just a half mile to the pharmacy to 20 miles to get to an appointment and everything in between.
This is a huge expense that is currently causing a lot of financial stress.
I have actual medical bills for the first time in my life as well from my surgery and hospital stay.
Because I can’t drive or carry things up my stairs, I rely on almost all of my food and needs to be delivered, which is also more expensive than the already inflated grocery prices.
And it’s becoming hard to keep up with the expense of Loki’s prescription cat food, which is not cheap, but extremely necessary. Without Loki, I’m not sure I’d be able to recover. He has been my rock and my finest caretaker and companion.
I am going to have more medical needs that insurance won’t cover in the coming months, including braces and other mobility devices, as well as (if I can afford it) access to a pool for doing my PT exercises when I’m not at the PT facility.
I could list a lot of other expenses that I’m having a hard time keeping up with, but these are the main things that any donation will go to. Apart from rides, medical bills, and Loki’s food, any funds will go towards food and other household expenses, maybe some art supplies if I have anything left over.
Anything you can donate will help! It is so hard for me to ask for this help, but I’m at my wits' end as to how to get by until I can at least walk to the store again and drive myself to appointments; even begin to work a part-time job if I can find something that fits my physical limitations as I heal.
Thank you for reading and thank you for caring; donation or not.
