Help Outlaws Taphouse pay their Lawyers & Fines

UPDATE: APRIL 1, 2021

This is an addendum to our previous fundraiser asking for help for our Covid fines.

Rebel News has been incredible telling our story and helping us find our lawyer, Chad Williamson.
We were officially closed when Alberta Health Services issued us a closure notice on Feb 26, 2021 and then Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis suspended our liquor license on March 9 and the City of Calgary revoked our business license and AHS our Food Handling Permit on March 10. Without any legal way to sell liquor and food and for an indefinite amount of time, our landlord then terminated our lease on March 15. We were forced OUT OF BUSINESS.
All because we asked for disclosure on their evidence that masks do indeed prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 virus and, until then, we allowed exceptions to the mask by-law into our establishment.
This case is going to court to protect other bars and restaurants, and any other business that has been impacted by this bylaw. And to prohibit the ganging up of government agencies on any person or business without a fair appeal process.

ORIGINAL WRITE-UP: JANUARY 23, 2021

On Dec 12, 2020, the last day before the mandatory restriction to close in-person dining at  all bars and restaurants in Alberta, Outlaws Taphouse and Bar had several people waiting inside for cabs and rides home after the bar closed at 11pm. Alberta Health Services, the Calgary Police Service, Occupational Health and Safety, and Alberta Gaming Liquor & Cannibis all had representatives come in and write them up for violations. The bylaw was everyone had to be out by 11pm, but the misunderstanding was that the actual restriction took place at 12:01am on Dec 13. Nevertheless, the CPS issued a $1200 ticket and AGLC suspended their license indefinitely. On Jan 5, another ticket for $1200 was issued for the same violation on Dec 12 but this time by a Peace Officer. AGLC cancelled its suspension when Outlaws paid them a $2500 fine prior to the reopening on Feb 8, even though it was their first violation and it should have been a $250 fine and a one day suspension.

UPDATE: JANUARY 26, 2021

Thank you so much to all of you who have donated so far. It's been truly humbling of the outpouring of support we have received so far.

We wanted to give an update as soon as we hit $1000, but we’re at $995 and that’s so close so we thought we’d do it now.

We have been in contact with jccf.ca , fightthefines.ca and Rebel News. They are all in agreement that we can fight the two yellow $1200 ticket fines in court, but they really can’t do anything about the $2500 AGLC fine since that is not in the courts.

Thank you for your support and generosity.
