Help out my missionary parents in Guatemala!
Donation protected
My parents were called as missionaries in 2009 and were sent through the Southern Baptist Korean Convention to Guatemala that year. They work with El Seminario Bautista de Guatemala (Baptist Seminary of Guatemala), where my dad is a voluntary professor and Extension Director. The ministry they do focuses on training up pastors from all over Guatemala, who have never been educated properly in seminaries, and sending them back to their local towns to plant and grow their churches in their communities.
My parents have been self-supported missionaries since 2009, meaning that they do not receive any outside financial support in order for them to stay and minister in Guatemala. They have always worked so hard to not just provide for my family, but also to support the ministry that they do. More than half of their income is used to support Guatemalan pastors that cannot afford to pay for seminary, let alone their school materials, and to also help these pastors plant and build their churches.
Guatemala had its first COVID-19 patient on March 13th, which led to a country-wide shut down on March 16th. This meant that my parent's small clothing business had to be closed. According to the most recent updates, all businesses are closed until the end of April. People are NOT allowed outside of their homes from 4pm-4am, even in their own neighborhoods. Despite the harsh measures, the government has provided no support to its people. The complete lack of support from the Guatemalan government make it difficult for ALL people in Guatemala to make ends meet, and my parents are no exception. There is NO financial aid, benefits or waivers or whatsoever from the government, but my parents are still obligated to pay the full rent for both months, pay ALL their employees, while still covering financial aspects of all of their ministries including but not limited to scholarships, student materials, local church maintenance etc while having no income at all. This could potentially lead to not being able to financially support the churches of my dad’s seminary mentees and further closures on mission programs that my parents are involved in.
Amidst it all, they remain positive and full of gratitude, trusting that God has a a specific plan for them and continue to do their best to reach out to my dad’s seminary students and local pastors that they partner with to minister the gospel to all people. Your help and prayers are much needed!
They would be grateful to receive any financial support and want to make it clear that they would like to use it to pay for their business rent and employee fee, mission program funding as well as local church support and maintenance funding so that they can focus on their continual support for their seminary students. Above all, your prayers are needed. Guatemala is known to be one of the most dangerous countries in the world where hundreds die weekly due to violence alone. Guatemala is also known for its impoverished state, where 90% of its people live with less than $1/day. This is a country that truly needs a lot of things, whether it's food, money, housing, health care etc. However, what this country needs the MOST desperately is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Help my parents continue their mission and calling of God to let Jesus be known in every region, town and street of Guatemala!
