Help Out the Dreihaus Boys (Dillsboro)

Dalton, Adam, and Blake Dreihaus have experienced an unimaginable amount of loss in the past two and a half years. In 2011, their father died in a motorcycle accident.  As their English teacher, I was able to read about their loss in moving essays that all three boys wrote about their father.  It was clear that the boys loved him deeply, and that despite their naturally cheerful and optimistic natures, that the journey back to a normal life was going to be a great challenge.  Tragically, on April 21st, just as the twins Blake and Adam are preparing to graduate from South Dearborn High School with honors, their mother also passed away unexpectedly.  

Dalton, the oldest child, had delayed his dream of serving his country in the military in order to work at Kroger to help his family out.  He wanted to provide extra support for his mother and his brothers until the twins went off to college.  I saw him recently and he was so excited that he had been officially accepted into the Navy, and he had lost weight and gotten in shape for training this summer.  

Blake and Adam were supposed to enjoy the night of their lives this weekend at their senior prom and graduation is just a few months away.  They have both been accepted to reputable colleges, and they were even going to be brave enough to step out on their own and go to separate schools, despite years of being so close that they often finish each other's sentences. They are two of the kindest boys I have ever met, always looking out for others, and deeply sensitive to needs and feelings of those around them.  They have been actively involved during their high school careers, working hard in Student Government, National Honor Society, playing tennis, and much more.  

Now, they are facing the challenges of young adulthood without the type of support that most of us take for granted---that of a mother or a father.  While they do have loving family to help them, it is very sad to think the financial burden will end up affecting the boys or their grandparents.  While we cannot give them back their parents, hopefully we can give them the security of knowing that there is a fund to help them pay off any financial obligations their parents may have left behind, and to give Dalton peace of mind that his brothers will be OK if he still decides to serve his country.  It is my wish that Adam and Blake can leave for college knowing that there is enough money for a tank of gas to visit friends and for a pizza after a late night of studying.  I would love to find a way for the financial burden to be off of them and their grandparents, as it feels like the least we can do for three young men who have always kept giving their best despite tragedy.

Any money collected will be donated directly to the boys and their grandparents to help defray any financial debts they may have been left, or to make their lives easier as they go off to college and the Navy.
