My name is Jared McCloy. I have been a very close friend to Matt Couture for over thirty years! Matt and I became close friends in high school and we have remained close despite living one province away. Recently, Matt has experienced some serious medical challenges related to epilepsy. Matt is dedicated father and husband to three growing children who depend on him. He was a French Immersion teacher in Winnipeg for over twenty years and he has been a principal for the last seven years in elementary and junior high schools. He loves to teach and being away from his role as a teacher and principal have been extremely hard for him.

As some of you might know, Matt was diagnosed with epilepsy over twenty years ago. For a long time his seizure disorder was well-controlled. Unfortunately, over the last few months, his seizures have returned and are not under control. Despite the best medical care in Manitoba, he is still experiencing seizures. He is under the care of his physicians, including his neurologist. As a result of the seizure activity, Matt has been away from work (as an elementary principal) for several weeks and he is unable to return to work at this time.

This GoFundMe page is dedicated to raising funds for Matt and his family to cover medical costs. Some costs are covered for epilepsy in Manitoba and others are not. As well, there are significant gaps in between insurance coverage that make paying the bills challenging because Matt will be away from work for some time. As a further complication of having seizures, Matt's driver's license has been suspended until he is seizure-free for over a year. We are also raising funds because there will be extra expenses related to transportation for doctor appointments.

We would greatly appreciate your help and financial support to help the Couture family cover any medical costs over the next few months. We would like to give Matt and his family some peace of mind so that he can concentrate on getting better and not worry about financial hardships during his recovery. Matt does not want to ask for help, but sometimes all of us need some help- this is one of those times.
