Premiering at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, OddSock Theatre brings Mother Earth to Venue 152, Sanctuary at Paradise in Augustines from 17-22 August. Following our home planet as she sets course to an unknown solar system, this new musical reimagines Earth’s history with other astral bodies, to explore what it means to build a community in the face of adversity.

OddSock Theatre was originally formed by six friends, all with backgrounds in production, who understood how inspiring the fringe can be and wanted to make their own shows. Having taken a break since their last Edinburgh show in 2008, the group noticed a growing gap in opportunities for young people to access fringe performing, and decided to offer a new generation of young people the chance to develop their skills and passion for the artform. At our heart, OddSock Theatre strives to give opportunities to performers and musicians who are looking to take their artistic career to the next level, using the professional experience of its members to enrich and challenge our new community.

Community is at the heart of Mother Earth's story, and over the past year of writing, workshopping and rehearsing our new musical, we have been building a community of our own. A community of young aspiring theatre makers and performers who are passionate about this project, including bringing on our new young producer, choreographer and social media content creator, as well as a significant cast and band, for many of whom this will be their first production since studying before taking the first step in performing professionally.

Why We Need Your Support

Being able to offer so many young people the incredible opportunity to debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is huge. However the fringe being what it is, financial support for our community performers is essential.

We need your help in fundraising a pot of money that will be offered to our community to help break down the financial barriers that stop so many young people reaching the fringe. Your donations will go straight to the members of our company that need it, to help cover their travel and accommodation costs.

By helping us get the whole company of Mother Earth up to Edinburgh, you will help inspire and bolster them, allowing them to focus on the excitement and pride they should feel when performing without any financial worries.
