My Uncle Wally is one of the hardest-working people I know. Over 40 years ago, he left his home in Poland and immigrated to the United States with my Aunt, determined to build a better life for their family. Through grit and determination, they raised their children, worked long hours, and created a life rooted in love, faith, and sacrifice.

Now in his 70s, Uncle Wally’s health is failing. He faces mounting medical bills that weigh heavily on him and my Aunt. He is the last person who deserves additional hardship, but tragically, that’s exactly what happened.

Recently, a family member traveling in Poland helped Uncle Wally withdraw the money he had worked so hard to save many years ago, which was left in a Polish bank account. After withdrawing the funds, they went to a currency exchange to convert the money into U.S. dollars. But after leaving the exchange, they recounted the money and were horrified to discover that 90% of it was counterfeit.

In a matter of moments, $9,000 of Uncle Wally’s life savings was stolen in a cruel scam. For someone already struggling with medical expenses, this was a devastating blow. Uncle Wally is someone who has always lived honestly and worked hard for every dollar. To have nearly all of his savings wiped out in such a heartless scheme is crushing.
