COVID Relief Fund for Lydia and Her Family

Donation protected
Hi, friends! Katie here. I am the founder of Passion Lilie, a fair trade, sustainable clothing brand based in the USA. I believe in nurturing economic sustainability by collaborating with my partners in India who are dedicated to paying fair living wages, creating a safe and healthy work environment, and investing in the overall wellbeing of the artisans they employ.

Now I want to introduce you to my friend Lydia who I am SO PROUD of, but has fallen on hard times. Lydia is a community role model. Nearly two decades ago she began work as a tailor in Bangalore (India!). She quickly rose through the ranks and soon received her diploma in Fashion Designing & Merchandising AND Business Entrepreneurship (she won top honors for her business plan!). Of course Lydia’s success has had a direct impact on her family, enabling them to move out of a slum community to a bigger, safer home and inspiring her daughters to chase their dreams, too.

Four and a half years ago, Lydia decided to go full force on her dreams and started her own tailoring unit. She rented out space on the ground floor of her home and brought on three tailors. Over the past few years, she’s been successful and even had both local and international clients.

Now here’s where the tables turn. Lydia recently contracted COVID (at first the doctor said it was typhoid!), but unfortunately it’s COVID. Her entire family has tested positive and her husband (who was working as a cab driver until his company just recently closed) is on a ventilator. As a small business owner, Lydia was forced to close her tailoring unit. In India, there are no PPP loans or government support, and any other loans come at extremely high interest rates, which is not feasible. Not only did Lydia have to put her dream career on hold, but she now has mounting medical bills and no income. Through all this, she is dedicated to paying her tailors (again, even though there is no income).

If you are reading this, if you have a little bit to spare to show Lydia and her family the support, love and kindness they deserve, we (and Lydia and her family), would greatly appreciate it. Any and all donations help, no matter how small. Even if you aren’t able to monetarily donate, please help us spread the word and share on social media.

Her current bills in USD amount to approximately:

Medical Bills: $1100

Tailor Salaries: $1100

We are raising a little extra to pay for credit fees and bank fees to transfer the money to Lydia.
