Help Support Our Amazing Kid City Fernandina Teachers

Last week, our lives — as well as the lives of our teachers, students, and fellow parents — changed suddenly and drastically.

On Thursday, October 16th, I received a call from Mrs. Sara, who was clearly upset and shocked as she explained that our beloved daycare, Kid City Fernandina, would be closing the very next day. Then, on Friday morning, October 17th, we received the devastating news that corporate had ordered the doors to be closed by 3 PM — permanently.

Trying to explain this to my 5-year-old son was heartbreaking. He burst into tears. Like so many of the children, he adored his teachers and classmates. Many of these kids had just graduated from Kid City’s VPK program and were excited to continue together — now they’re suddenly separated.

This abrupt closure blindsided everyone: the teachers, the families, and especially the children. Parents were left scrambling for childcare, and our dedicated teachers were left without jobs, pay, or even proper notice.

After speaking directly with the Daytona Beach corporate office, I was told that the closure was due to “decreased state funding” and “low enrollment.” They admitted the location had been in financial decline for years — yet they chose to give everyone just two days’ notice before shutting down. No plan. No support. No care for the people most affected.

Our teachers have given so much love, time, and care to our children. They’ve nurtured them, taught them, comforted them, and helped them grow every single day. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.

We’re raising funds to directly support the teachers of Kid City Fernandina — to help them cover bills, buy food, and manage expenses while they search for new jobs. Every dollar will go straight to the teachers who made Kid City feel like home.
