HELP OUR SWEET NATHAN
Donation protected
Our sweet Nathan spent this past week in the hospital for a pancreatitis and diabetic ketoacidosis. Prior to this week, Nathan did no have a history or diagnosis of diabetes. Over the course of 7 days, Nathan received fluids, electrolytes, insulin, antibiotics, appetite stimulants, and pain killers through an IV. The doctors discovered that Nathan had increased amounts of ketones in his blood, which could be fatal if untreated.
While in the hospital, the doctors also conducted several abdominal ultrasounds to monitor the inflammation around his liver and kidneys. Initially, the doctors were concerned that he may also have lymphoma and samples needed to be taken. Thankfully, results for lymphoma were negative.
Although the doctors and medications have been successful in regulating his blood sugar levels, electrolytes, and eliminating the ketones in his blood, Nathan has not been reliably eating. Because the pancreatitis is painful, he has not been interested in eating. However, he needs to start eating again in order to fully heal. Nathan currently has a nasogastric tube to give supplemental, liquid feedings to receive the nutrients he needs to get healthy.
Nathan was discharged on Saturday, 10/20 in hopes that he would begin eating again at home. However, if he does not begin eating regularly within the next few days, there is a possibility that he may need to go back to the hospital for a more invasive feeding tube.
As difficult as it is for us to ask for assistance, we are reaching out to our friends and family to help us out in any way they can to help our little Nathan. We have had Nathan since he was 3 months old and he is truly like our child and means the world to us. However, we are finding ourselves in a hard spot financially and have maxed out 3 different credit cards in order to pay for his care this past week. Although our current total care for this past week is close to $10,0000, we are hoping to gather funds for at least half of what we have already spent.
We thank you for all your love, concern, and support during this time and we hope that you can help us in any way that you can to help our sweet boy.
