Hello everyone,
We are the Montoya family. My name is Sophia, Miguel and I have two beautiful children together Josiah 11 yrs old, and Naomi 9 yrs old. Josiah is a fun, loving boy who loves to go outside on bike rides, play with legos, football, board games, and just be adventurous outside with his little sister. He is always smiling and loves to tell jokes. Anyone who meets Josiah is instantly in love with his fun personality.
On 2/9/23 I noticed that Josiah was forming lumps along his neck. I took him to the urgent care center where they gave him a diagnosis of Lymphadenitis and prescribed him antibiotics. The next day 02/10/2023 his lymph nodes became more swollen along his jaw. I took Josiah to his pediatrician and the dr agreed with the diagnosis and prescribe different antibiotics in hopes to bring down the swelling. A few days later on 02/13/2023 Josiah was still very ill so I took him back to the pediatrician where the dr instructed me to take him to Lakeland regional to do blood work. Within two hours my pediatrician called us to tell me my son's white blood cell count was extremely high and to take him back to the hospital to do a full examination. Within an hour the dr came in to tell us that they believed our son had leukemia. We were transported by ambulance to the Nemours children's hospital where he was admitted to the PICU. We anxiously waited 3 days to find out the results and we were devastatingly told that our son has leukemia. They told us he would need chemotherapy which would go through his chest and his spine, a bone marrow biopsy, and install a port in his chest. He had surgery the next day and they told us that the swollen lymph nodes in his neck would complicate the surgery and that he may not wake up. Much to our relief, our son woke up from the surgery. We spent days at the hospital waiting to hear when we could take our son home. We found out he had cancer cells in his spine as well and that we would have to take him back every Monday and Thursday to continue to do the same surgery again and again.
The doctors told us that it would be a long journey to recovery.
We are asking you to please help us to be able to pay deductible, medical expenses, travel expenses, and basic needs. Josiah is our superhero who is fighting to kick leukemia’s butt. We appreciate anything you can give.
Thank you,
Montoya family.
