My name is Megan. I work street outreach for the homeless of Pittsburgh. Our outreach is called Our Streets Collective. The people we care for are people who have had to be the bravest, most resilient people. We all belong to each other and we all support each other, homeless or not. We are outreach and social justice leaders working to create solidarity among the poor and unhoused. We are a community.
We desperately need shoes for our people. We often duct tape shoes back together or put plastic bags over their feet. Their feet are their most important, most valuable asset. They walk everywhere. Not having good shoes can lead to trench foot from the rain and being constantly wet, calluses, heel wounds, terrible foot pain. If they can't walk, they can't survive.
Please consider donating. Even a dollar helps us. Anything left over after we buy shoes, about 100 pairs, will go to other items we need, like tents and sleeping bags, sunscreen and bug spray, tarps.
We rely on donations and the kindness of strangers. We thank you so much in advance.
