Help Our SPED Classrooms Explore Olympia Children's Museum

Hi friends and family!

Last year, you helped me take my kiddos on an accessible field trip, and I am asking for your help again this year. Last year, my kiddos made so many memories and had the best time! This year, I am hoping to provide our returning kiddos and my new set of kinders with an even better experience. This year, I am hoping to take our kiddos to the Olympia Children’s Museum. It’s bigger, better, and will allow my students to explore so many more hands-on experiences than the Tacoma Museum. With an enhanced experience comes an enhanced cost, and still no district funds.

Our why for the trip? Many of the kids in our self-contained classrooms don’t get the opportunity to participate in the general education field trips now that they are starting up again. This is due to many factors and based on each individual kiddo.

I brought the idea to my SPED team to take our kiddos on their own field trip that they could all access and fully enjoy. An opportunity for them to explore the world around them, utilize the social and adaptive skills we have been working on, and most importantly, to make amazing memories with our babies.

I thought I would share our goal with all of you amazing humans, to see if you all could help us provide this experience for our kiddos.

We would be looking to take our 2 self-contained classrooms and my caseload of kinders on the trip. The trip would require 2 buses, as one of our students is in a wheelchair and the accessible bus can only hold so many. Our lunches would be covered as a Title 1 school that offers free lunch for all of our students. The costs would include $442 for the admission into the museum and $507 for the cost of both buses and drivers.

I attempted to do a Donors Choose project; however, only virtual trips are currently allowed to be funded. We would like to give our students an opportunity to practice the many social skills we have been practicing and enjoy some hands-on experiences together, not a virtual experience that not all of them would be able to fully access.
