Our son has battled an immune deficiency since birth, but in August 2023, his health took a dramatic turn for the worse. He became chronically ill, missing three years of school and enduring constant vomiting, water retention, and a series diagnoses including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). His symptoms were so severe that he was placed on homebound instruction, unable to participate in daily life or attend school.

Over the past three years, we have sought answers from specialists at Children's National, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Duke, UVA, and many others. He underwent at least eight MRI/MRV/MRA procedures and even had a stent placed in his left transverse sinus after doctors suspected a vein narrowing. Despite all these efforts, his condition remained a mystery, and we felt increasingly desperate as each specialist passed him on to the next.

Our last hope was a functional medicine specialist, who encouraged us to check our home for mold. To our shock, we discovered that mold may be one of the root cause of his illness although many of his neurological issues might still remain. The remediation process will require gutting our home and temporarily vacating, which is a significant financial burden. We are a family in crisis, willing to do anything for our child, and it is difficult to ask for help. But we are reaching out to our community for support so our son can recover, return to school, and regain his quality of life. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
