Our family is asking for help during the most devastating time of our lives. On a cold night in Detroit, our sister was struck by an intoxicated driver on Livernois Avenue near Elmhurst. She was pinned between vehicles, left critically injured in the street, and exposed to the freezing cold. For a time, she was unidentified—a Jane Doe—unable to speak for herself while fighting to stay alive. She survived. But survival came at an unimaginable cost. As a direct result of this accident, our sister suffered a full right leg amputation above the knee. In addition, doctors have informed us that she may still require a left leg amputation due to the severity of her remaining injuries. Her future mobility remains uncertain, and every day brings new challenges and decisions no one should ever have to face.
This is not a one-time expense. Prosthetics require custom fabrication, repeated fittings, physical therapy, maintenance, and future replacements throughout her life. In addition, she faces multiple surgeries, long hospital stays, intensive rehabilitation, and the emotional trauma of learning how to live in a body forever changed by this tragedy. Before this accident, she was independent, active, and full of life. Today, she is facing: a full right leg above-knee amputation, the possible amputation of her left leg, the need for a right above-knee prosthetic leg and potentially additional prosthetics, multiple surgeries and ongoing medical treatment, months to years of physical therapy and rehabilitation, wheelchairs, mobility aids, and adaptive medical equipment, home modifications to make daily life accessible, loss of income and inability to work, mounting medical bills not fully covered by insurance, and severe emotional trauma from being crushed, abandoned, and left in the cold.
The cost of healing—physically, emotionally, and financially—is overwhelming. Our family is doing everything we can, but we cannot face this alone. We are asking for help so our sister can focus on healing, recovery, and learning how to live again, rather than worrying about how she will afford the care she needs to survive and rebuild her life. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing her story. Your compassion, prayers, and support mean more than we can ever express.
