Help our sister get a new kidney.
Actvist sister needs help from the community. Historically, as a social worker Lauren Cephus helps those in the community by volunteering, speaking out against injustice and also creating policy. Lauren is a cultivator of change and a kind hearted individual who wants to continue her life so that she can continue to help others. Some of her goals include being with her 8 grandchildren as much as possible and continuing to be a change agent in the community. When her time is not busy volunteering she spends a lot of time enjoying watching her beautiful grandchildren grow and play.
Lauren Cephus is the Vice President of The Black Commission which is a nonprofit organization that meets the needs of the black community. The Black Commission helps to write policy as it pertains to education, economic growth, politics and Representation and Medical/mental health. Organizing the community around a variety of issues is where Lauren finds the most work needed and connects with various grassroots organizations to provide and promote action.
Since she’s been in Jacksonville, Fl. Lauren and her youngest daughter, Qwyn, founded 'Phenomenal sisterhood of accidental actors', which is organization of women in the community. These Women came together for two years to perform not only 'Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues' but also Ntokzie Shangie’s 'For colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf' as fundraisers for community women.
Lauren believes that community activists need an outlet which is why she founded the organization 'Phenomenal sisterhood of accidental actors" and put the call out to all female activists. For the first two years her daughter, who was 15 at the time, was the Director. Through these different acting opportunities, new bonds were created in the community, lifetime bonds with Women who would have otherwise never have crossed paths.
Now the tables have turned and it is time for Lauren Cephus to come and ask for the community's help. She has worked tirelessly for the last seven years, helping the community for the betterment of all. She is now calling out for help.
What hasn’t been shared is that Lauren has been suffering from end stage renal disease which affects her immune system tragically since 2014. Only a few in her circle knew about her disorder but now comes the time where she is being offered a kidney and is in need of assistance in raising funding for the medication that goes along with it.
Lauren needs at least $5,500.00 to be able to recieve this kidney, which she needs to survive. The medications alone are unbelievably expensive. We need all hands on deck. Let's help save our village!
