ENGLISH - Meet our beloved nephew, Leonardo (Leo) – a brave little warrior with the biggest smile. Born prematurely on May 30, 2022, in Monterrey, Mexico. Leo has been a fighter from day one. He spent his first month in the NICU and was later diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Due to his condition, he relies on a G-tube for feeding and has faced countless hospital visits, medical procedures, and therapies - from physical to aquatic to deglutition, Leo's parents have worked tirelessly to give him the best care possible. And, through it all, Leo remains a joyful, resilient, and loving 2-year-old.

Today, Leo faces another big challenge—he is hard of hearing and currently wears hearing aids, though he struggles with them. His doctors have determined that a cochlear implant would dramatically improve his quality of life, allowing him to experience the world in a whole new way. Leo is at the perfect age and weight for this life-changing procedure, but unfortunately, his insurance only covers a portion of the surgery. We are reaching out for support to help his parents afford the remaining costs of the surgery and aftercare.

ESPAÑOL - Conoce a nuestro querido sobrino, Leonardo (Leo), un pequeño guerrero con la sonrisa más grande. Leo nació prematuramente el 30 de mayo del 2022 en Monterrey, México, y desde el día uno, él ha luchado grandemente. Pasó su primer mes de vida en Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales y a los meses fue diagnosticado con parálisis cerebral infantil. Debido a su condición actualmente utiliza un botón gástrico para comer, y ha pasado por múltiples visitas al hospital, procedimientos quirúrgicos e innumerables terapias físicas, acuáticas y de deglución. Pero a pesar de todo esto, Leo sigue siendo un niño de 2 años muy alegre, fuerte y lleno de amor. Sus papás han trabajado arduamente para brindarle el mejor cuidado posible y poder ayudarlo a desarrollarse y crecer en las mejores condiciones.

El día de hoy, Leo enfrenta otro desafío: tiene problemas significativos de audición y utiliza aparatos auditivos, aunque le cuesta mucho adaptarse a ellos. Sus doctores han determinado que un implante coclear mejoraría drásticamente su calidad de vida, permitiéndole experimentar el mundo de una manera completamente nueva. Leo tiene la edad y el peso ideales para someterse a este procedimiento que cambiará su vida, pero desafortunadamente, su seguro solo cubre una parte de la cirugía. Por eso, estamos pidiendo su apoyo para ayudar a sus padres a cubrir los costos restantes de la operación y el cuidado postoperatorio.
