We live in Río Grande, Puerto Rico, up on the side of El Yunque. Some recent heavy rains caused a massive landslide on the property of one of our neighbors. The top of the landslide is only a few feet from the foundation of their house. They fear that the next heavy rain storm will cause more damage, and possibly the collapse of their home.
They are in the process of repairing the landslide, and the town government is covering the cost of the heavy equipment and operators. The cost for materials is in the $3000 to $5000 range -- they need to buy dirt to fill in and create terraces, and then they need to build a concrete retaining wall (and I assume labor for building that wall).
All proceeds from this campaign will go directly to our neighbors to help with costs of repairing this natural disaster.
