On Wednesday evening, March 4th, around 10 pm, our neighborhood was hit by a sudden and devastating flash flood. I had just taken my trash out and noticed only a light drizzle, but within minutes, water began gushing up from my sump pump. As I rushed to move belongings in my basement, I realized I had missed calls and texts from neighbors who were checking on me to make sure I was safe. When I stepped outside, I saw a river rushing through our streets. The flood water reached the ceiling in some basements, cars were totaled, and anything left outside was swept away. Many of us did not have flood insurance, and the losses have been overwhelming. Personally, I had four feet of water in my garage and shed, losing my riding mower, generator, pressure washer, dirt bikes, grills, refrigerator, and more. My chicken coop and chickens were washed away, my beehives are gone, and several greenhouses with gardening equipment were destroyed. This has been devastating for all of us.
We are hoping to collect enough funds to help replace the necessities that so many families lost—furnaces, air-conditioning units, hot water heaters, washers, and dryers. The funds will also help with cleanup and mold remediation, which are essential for making our homes safe and livable again. I have been going door-to-door to check on everyone and gather lists of what they have lost. Your support would mean the world to our neighborhood and help us begin to recover from this disaster. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated and will make a real difference in our community's recovery.
