Hi everyone,
I’m fundraising for mum Fatima Nakhmetova, and I would be deeply grateful for any support — no matter how big or small — to help us get her the urgent surgery she needs.
My mum was first diagnosed with granulosa cell ovarian cancer (ER+) in Ukraine almost 15 years ago and throughout all these years our family has covered the cost of her treatments ourselves — surgeries, chemotherapy, medication, travel, consultations, everything. We never asked for help before, because we always tried to manage on our own. But now we have reached a point where we simply cannot cope alone.
Sadly, over the last year her condition has become critical. Recent scans show extensive intra-abdominal progression: multiple large tumours filling her abdomen and pelvis, causing severe pain, ascites, compression of organs, and obstruction of the left ureter. Doctors in the UK have done everything they could, but there are no curative options left — only palliative care.
For the past few months, we have been desperately searching for a clinic willing to take her case. We contacted hospitals in several countries, paid for consultations, tests, flights, scans, and medical reviews. In just a few months, our family has already spent around £15,000 trying to find a doctor who could offer her a real chance.
We finally found hope: the surgeon who treated my mom back in Turkey in 2013 has agreed to attempt a very complex and high-risk debulking surgery. It is not guaranteed, but it is her only chance to relieve the tumour pressure and give her more time.
The hospital invoice states the cost at $42,000 (around £32,000).
We have already paid $36,000 for the surgery — $10,000 from our own savings and the rest through a loan we had to take urgently to secure the operation on time. Now, we need to raise £20,000 to cover:
• the remaining balance for the operation,
• rehabilitation and ongoing medical care,
• and to help repay the loan if possible.
My mom is the heart of our family. She is the most kind, empathetic and selfless person you could meet. She has always helped others, even when she was unwell herself. She finds joy in the simplest things and tries to stay strong for us every day, despite the pain.
I never imagined I would someday write this. Asking for help is incredibly difficult, but I will do anything to save her and give her more time with her family. She deserves every chance to keep fighting.
If you are able to donate — even £1 — it means more than you know. If you can’t, please share our fundraiser. Every share helps us reach someone who might be able to help.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading our story and for standing with us during the most difficult moment of our lives.
❤️
