Help Our Mom Stay Home with Comfort and Dignity During Her Battle with ALS

First foremost we ask that you keep her and our family in your prayers.

Our family is reaching out for help for our beloved mom — a retired hospice nurse who spent her entire career caring for others with compassion, grace, and strength. Now she is the one who needs care.

A few years ago, our mom had to take an early retirement because of health issues, which greatly reduced her Social Security income. She has always worked hard and lived humbly, but now she’s facing her most difficult battle yet — ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

This devastating disease has already taken away the use of her arms, and she’s becoming too weak to feed herself or perform the basic daily tasks that most of us take for granted — like getting dressed, bathing, or using the bathroom. Despite these challenges, she continues to fight with courage and dignity.

Our greatest wish is to keep her at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, for whatever time she has left. Unfortunately, that’s becoming harder as her care needs increase.

All three of her children work full-time jobs, and none of us have FMLA (Family Medical Leave) benefits that would allow us to take extended time off to care for her without losing our jobs. Because of this, we desperately need to hire a live-in caregiver to help with her daily care, feeding, medication, and comfort — especially now that she’s under hospice care.

We’ve discovered another challenge: many caregiving agencies refuse to take hospice patients, assuming the work will be short-term. This makes finding and keeping qualified help even more difficult — and costly.

We are currently interviewing caregivers ourselves, but we simply can’t afford to pay for the level of care she needs on our own.

Your donation will go directly toward:

    •    Paying for a live-in caregiver to stay with Mom

    •    Helping cover basic medical supplies (suction machine, gloves, wipes, linens, etc.)

    •    Ensuring she can remain safe and comfortable at home rather than in a facility

Our mom cared for countless people during her years as a hospice nurse — holding their hands, easing their pain, and helping families find peace through the hardest times. Now it’s her turn to be cared for with that same love and compassion she gave to so many others.

She lost her husband suddenly years ago and now faces this illness without a partner by her side. Please help us make it possible for her to spend her remaining days surrounded by family, peace, and dignity — at home, where she belongs.
