Help for Selfless Air Care Nurse Sandra Greyeyes

Our mom Sandi Greyeyes has been a RN at San Juan Regional Medical Center for 25 years, and for the last 12 years serving her community as part of SJRMC’s Air Care team. Our mom is a devout Christian, loving mother, grandmother, and beloved friend to many. Her fight with Covid began on Nov 21. Since then, she has been admitted to the hospital 3 times. On Dec 11th I again had to make the heart wrenching call to 911 as her oxygen levels dropped dangerously low. My sisters’ and I received the news that the pneumonia she had developed while in the hospital the second time had worsened. As her body continued to fight these infections the function of her lungs was decreasing, her body was using every bit of energy to take the next breath. On December 13th day 23 of fighting Covid our mom was placed on a ventilator to help her breathing, and the next day flown to the Critical Care unit at the University of New Mexico hospital. As if fighting Covid itself was not enough, our mother who was the main caregiver to her parents who also contracted Covid, lost her mother on Dec 3rd while she was in the hospital, thankfully her dad our grandfather is recovering well.

Our mother is the strongest person we know, and she is fighting hard. We understand that once she healed and discharged it will be a long road until her full recovery. She has already missed days at work, and it will be a while before she is able to return to serving her community. Our mom has so selflessly put her life on the line everyday as a flight nurse, the last thing we want her to worry about while she recovers is her expenses.
