Help Mom Mary Welch Rebuild After Wildfire
Donation protected
Two nights ago (September 7th, 2020) at 2:30 AM, our mom's neighbor woke her up, told her that they have to evacuate, and to get in the car right away. The Oregon wildfires were getting closer and it was time to go. With nothing but what she wore out of the house and what she carried in a handbag, she joined her neighbors and drove away from the encroaching flames. We are incredibly thankful that our mom, Mary, and those in the surrounding area made it to safety.
While our mom and her neighbors were lucky, their homes were not. We learned today that Mary's house has burned to the ground. The house containing all of Mary's belongings; a life's worth of treasures, family photographs, her clothes, her furniture, and every material thing in her life that she cherished. The house that provided Mary with a place of independence and safety is no longer able to do so. Not just houses were lost but also communities.
Our Mom has been the Queen of the Mackenzie River for over 30 years. She owned The Whitewater Café in Blue River for many years and has worked at the Log Cabin and The Christmas Store Witch (so appropriate because she was born on Dec. 25th). Mom turns 90 this year, and the epic celebration that was planed for July 25th in Blue River, Oregon had to be cancelled in order to keep everyone safe. Our family, scattered across the United States, like many families this year had to cancel plane tickets and travel plans. Now, we have nowhere to gather, nowhere to celebrate.
We are asking for your generosity, to please help us rebuild Mary's life and find a new, joyful place for her to call her own. Even at 90, Mary still mowed her own lawn, still worked, still contributed to her community. We are asking for support to get her back on her feet and begin to rebuild. 100% of funds raised will be sent directly to Mary Welch, to be used to find new housing and rebuild after losing everything. The estimations of loss at this time are difficult to calculate, but every donation will help provide comfort in this incredibly difficult time. Updates will come as often as we can!
