Please Help Support Our Mom's Battle with Rectal Cancer
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
We are reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for support for our mom, Megan Sedlak, who is currently fighting stage 3C rectal cancer. She is 47 years old and has always been the rock of our family—raising seven children, always putting others before herself, and showing incredible strength. Now, she is facing a tough battle and needs your help.
She first noticed abdominal pain and blood in her stool back in June of 2024. She was repeatedly sent to the emergency room, only to be told she was constipated or trying to misuse pain medications. She was eventually misdiagnosed with gallbladder stones and had surgery to remove the organ. While receiving follow-up care for this surgery, the doctors discovered what she actually had was a tumor the size of a lime above her rectum.
She will be receiving aggressive treatment at Mass General Cancer Center in Boston, Massachusetts. This will include 4 months of chemotherapy, 6 weeks of radiation, and ultimately surgery to remove the tumor. After the surgery, she will likely need a temporary ostomy bag while the area heals, though there is no guarantee, and it’s possible she may require a permanent ostomy bag.
The reality of her treatment plan means she will need to travel back and forth between Illinois and Boston over the coming months. As you can imagine, the cost of travel, accommodations, food, and daily expenses will be and have been a huge burden on our family during this challenging time. We are asking for help to cover those expenses so our mom can focus on healing without the added stress of more financial strain.
Our Mom has always been there for all of us, and now we have the opportunity to be there for her. She has seven children who depend on her and need her more than ever. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help ease the burden and allow us to focus on her recovery and getting her back to herself again.
Thank you for your generosity, support, and prayers during this difficult time. We really do appreciate every bit of kindness extended to us. Please share this campaign with others who might be willing to help!
With gratitude,
Brittany and Rheannon Bohlman and the Sedlak Family
