Our mom has always been one of the strongest people we know, but this past year has brought more challenges. She has been battling Multiple Sclerosis (Primary Progressive) and Fibromyalgia, and in just the past year alone, she’s undergone four surgeries at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, with more to come.

For those who may not know, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic condition where the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerves. This causes communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. MS can lead to symptoms such as muscle weakness, loss of coordination, vision problems, extreme fatigue, memory and concentration issues, and chronic pain. It is not only a physical battle but also a neurological one, impacting both the body and the mind.

On top of the surgeries, there have been countless doctor appointments, physical therapy sessions, and hotel stays in Rochester for extended treatments. These trips and procedures have taken a huge financial and emotional toll on her.

Because of her MS, our mom has been unable to work. She has recently transitioned to using a u-walker to help with mobility, but unfortunately, their home is not yet handicap accessible—another major need we are trying to address so she can live safely and comfortably.

In addition to her ongoing treatments, she’s being introduced to new therapy options and specialists across multiple departments. The reality is that these medical needs, and the expenses that come with them, will only continue.

We are asking for help to cover:

  • Medical expenses (surgeries, equipment, medication, physical therapy)
  • Making their home handicap accessible
  • Hospital and hotel stays in Rochester for surgeries, appointments, and treatments

Most of all, we want to make sure she has the care and equipment she needs to keep doing the things that bring her the most joy—like doing activities with her grandbabies and being able to keep up with them (which is tricky for anyone lol).

Even the smallest donation makes a difference. If you can’t give financially, we would be grateful if you could share. And if you know of any North Dakota programs, resources, or assistance options that may help long-term, please don’t hesitate to message me directly—any insight would mean so much!!

As Mom would say: “Thank you, and SKOL!”
