Help Our Mom Fight Liver Cancer

Donation protected
We never imagined we would be writing something like this, but today we are asking for help for the person who has always been there for all of us—our mom, Joan.

At 83 years old, Joan has recently been diagnosed with a serious and life-altering illness. After undergoing an MRI, doctors have identified a mass in her liver that is consistent with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer. The tumor is approximately 4 cm and is already affecting nearby structures, including her bile ducts and blood vessels. Right now, doctors are working to determine whether it can be surgically removed and what treatment options are possible.

She has already had stents placed in her liver to help drain it, as it was blocked and causing jaundice.

This has been devastating news for our family.

But if there’s one thing we know about Joan, it’s that she is incredibly strong. We often call her our “miracle woman”—because time and time again, she has faced serious health challenges and fought her way through them.

She raised three children on her own, always putting her family first no matter how difficult things were. She is the kind of person who never gave up—no matter what life put in front of her.

Over the years, she has endured three heart surgeries. She battled and survived bowel cancer, requiring major surgery. And in 2019, she developed sepsis and nearly lost her life—but somehow, she pulled through.

She has always been a fighter.

Joan is a loving mother of three children. While one of us lives in British Columbia, we are all doing everything we can to come together and support her during this incredibly difficult time. No matter the distance, she remains the heart of our family.

Now, she is facing one of the toughest battles yet.

We are in urgent need of financial help. Joan is a proud person and has never asked for help before, but this time we truly need support to care for our mom.

Joan is living on a senior pension, which is simply not enough to cover the level of care she now requires. At this point, she cannot stand or walk on her own and needs assistance with even the most basic daily tasks.

She urgently needs mobility equipment to help her move safely, as well as extended personal support worker (PSW) care to assist with eating, meal preparation, mobility, using the bathroom, walking, and physical therapy.

She also has weekly medical appointments that require transportation and support, along with medications that are not fully covered.

In addition, there are many ongoing costs that are not fully covered, including home modifications to make her living space safe, specialized medical equipment such as a hospital bed or support devices, daily care and hygiene supplies, and nutritional support to help maintain her strength.

The costs are quickly becoming overwhelming, and we are doing everything we can to make sure she is safe, cared for, and as comfortable as possible during this time.

We want to give her the dignity and support she deserves—but we cannot do it alone.

We are asking for your help.

Your donation will go toward:
• Mobility devices and essential equipment
• Extended PSW and in-home care support
• Medications not covered by insurance
• Transportation to weekly medical appointments
• Home modifications and safety equipment
• Daily care supplies and nutritional support
• Ongoing medical and recovery-related expenses

If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign would mean just as much to us.

We have attached medical documentation and would be happy to provide any further information if needed.

Most importantly, we ask for your thoughts, prayers, and positive energy for Joan as she faces this battle.

She has overcome so much in her life already. We truly believe in her strength—but she shouldn’t have to go through this alone.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, your support, and for standing with Joan.

❤️James Brandon (Bent) , Tracey, and Steven (her children)
