Help Launch Our New Middle School Community Choir!

Donation protected
Bellingham Youth Choir (BYC) is a brand new educational choir for 5th-8th graders in Northwest Washington State run by music educators. We are just launching this project, but throughout the year we will work with students to present three choir performances to the community. Our program’s goals are to foster an interscholastic choral community by drawing from multiple schools across the greater Bellingham area, as well as provide opportunities for middle-grade students to experience singing choral music in an ensemble prior to high school. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where students of all identities and backgrounds can feel at home and shine in developing their musical talents!

BYC is designed to bridge the gap in public school music education during the middle school years. We are not a substitute for music education in school, but an extracurricular supplement for students to deepen their music education. We expect our students will also be enrolled in music classes that may be offered in their home schools!

We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we need your help to get off the ground! (Our Tax ID# (EIN) is 99-4329557).

Our Team:
We are three educators who are volunteering our time for this project!
  • Connie Campbell teaches choir and other music classes at Bellingham High School and serves as Program Co-Coordinator and Conductor for BYC.
  • Pearl Petaia teaches choir, band, and orchestra at Kulshan Middle School and serves as Program Co-Coordinator and Conductor for BYC.
  • Jen Lois teaches sociology at Western Washington University and provides Administrative Support for BYC.
Our Funding Needs:
We are trying to minimize costs for the program, and even though the three of us are volunteering our time entirely, we still have expenses, such as renting performance space and purchasing music. We charge students a participation fee of $100 per 8-week session, yet even this fee will pose a hardship for some families, and we would like to provide financial assistance to make our program as accessible as possible!

Any help you can provide toward this goal would be greatly appreciated! A donation of $100 would allow one student to participate in one session at no cost, or allow two students a 50% discount. Even a donation of $10 will give us a boost in getting this nonprofit up and running!

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE ARTS IN OUR COMMUNITY!
