Someone very important to our family is facing one of the most challenging battles anyone can endure — Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). This progressive disease slowly takes away muscle function, making everyday tasks we often take for granted increasingly difficult. In May, when signs started to show, a doctor started treating her for lymes disease when it wasn’t lymes disease, in fact bloodwork done at a different doctor said she didn’t have ANY lymes in her blood at all. Mayo Clinic quickly delivered the detrimental news that she has ALS-the kind that cannot be cured, and cannot be slowed down…Despite the physical and mental challenges she is facing, she continues to inspire us every day with her strength, grace, and determination. My mom is the kindest woman, always creating a life everyone can enjoy, always putting others before herself, loving every friend and family member, and always showing up for others. Now, it’s time for us to show up for her.

ALS is debilitating and expensive. Our family is coming together to figure out our roles in helping give her the best future possible. The costs for medical equipment, home care, home accessibility modifications, and future medical treatments quickly add up and can become overwhelming.
