...to help build a safe space (rehab and foster) pen for SE London’s urban foxes to our local urban foxes
...in partnership with FoxAngels Foundation and Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve (Brockley)
On May 28th, Conchi and I will be participating in the Ford RideLondon-Essex 100 mile bike race. We are both wildlife rescue volunteers and want to raise funds to be able to build a rehab/foster pen for local urban foxes in SE London. We were lucky to be given a slot at the Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve in Brockley, SE London. In order to build the pen we will need to raise around £2000 to buy material and build and kit out the pen.
This part of SE London is currently not very well covered in terms of available sites to help foxes to recover from injury before releasing them back into their usual territory, or to foster orphaned / injured cubs. We have teamed up with various wildlife rescue organisations in SE London such as Fox Angels Foundation and want to help provide a safe space for foxes in need.
It is not exclusively to work with just one rescue charity. The idea is to offer this pen to any rescue or rescuer in this part of London.
Conchi and I have lived in SE London for over 20 years and are both avid cyclists. We both started in rescue by fostering, re-homing cats and dogs as well as volunteering for cats and dogs in shelters. Between both of us we are about five years into volunteering for wildlife rescues and also help members of the public whenever we can with local wildlife in need… mainly foxes and pigeons, but not exclusively.
