My name is Sharmaine, and I am the mother of my precious daughter, Shanny. As a parent, nothing prepares you for the moment when you are told that your child’s life depends on something far beyond your control and your financial capacity. Today, I am sharing Shanny’s story with a humble heart, hoping for kindness, prayers, and support.

When Shanny was just one month old, we received the heartbreaking diagnosis that she had biliary atresia, a rare and serious liver condition. Her doctors explained that there was a short “golden period” where a surgery called the Kasai procedure could give her a chance to survive and delay further liver damage. As parents, we did not hesitate. Even though we did not have enough money for the surgery, we chose to fight for our daughter’s life.

During the operation, Shanny’s pediatric surgeon discovered devastating news-half of her liver was already cirrhotic. A liver biopsy was done, yet the team still proceeded with the Kasai procedure, holding onto hope. We stayed in the hospital, praying every day that the surgery would work. Sadly, despite everyone’s efforts, the Kasai procedure was unsuccessful.

Further tests revealed another painful truth: Shanny was also suffering from Caroli’s syndrome, a rare congenital liver disorder. With this, her final diagnosis became biliary atresia with Caroli’s syndrome. We were told that, eventually, Shanny will need a liver transplant to survive.

Doctors have advised us that the liver transplant may be done in Taiwan, India, Canada, or at The Medical City in the Philippines. While we are willing to go anywhere to save our daughter, the cost of transplant, medical care, travel, and recovery is far beyond what our family can afford.

Shanny is still so small, yet she has already endured more pain than any child should. She smiles, she fights, and she holds on—teaching us what true strength looks like. As her mother, I will never stop fighting for her, but I cannot do this alone.
