Starter Set Preschool and Child Development Center began as a dream of Barbara and Douglas Packard who envisioned a school in which children could learn and play in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. This dream became a reality in September of 1997 when Starter Set opened its doors. Starter Set has had many children and families pass thru their doors many of which have stayed in touch and become family over the years. Doug and Barbara have poured their heart and soul into Starter Set even sacrificing their own needs to make sure their teachers stayed employed during hard times such as the 2008 recession, the Porter Ranch gas leak and now Covid. Starter Set even stayed open during Covid when many schools closed. California issued a statewide waiver for licensed facilities to stay open for essential workers so they did just that because we had working parents that still needed childcare. Even though attendance dropped from 40 children down to just 10, Doug and Barbara wanted to make sure their teachers stayed employed and the children had a place to be cared for. Things are slowly picking up but the school is in need of some things such as a new climbing apparatus and playground equipment. Times have been tough for this little school so I’m asking for the community’s help in raising funds to make these purchases. Our goal is to raise $40,000 so anything helps. Any amount is welcome and greatly appreciated.
