This is Joe O'Grady, Farm Manager for Holcomb Farm in West Granby. I'm creating this GoFundMe to help our Jamaican workers recover and rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Melissa. Kim Gayle, Mckean Thomas and Danovan Robinson are here with me again today working on one of their last Saturdays - harvesting greens for the farm store and roots for winter storage - before returning to a home that will be unrecognizable. Their presence at our Farm these past 6 years has dramatically changed the trajectory of our little community farm.
Danovan is rushing home November 3rd with Mckean and Kim heading back November 11th. We expect the return to be challenging emotionally, physically, and financially. We are asking for donations so that they can both rebuild, feed their families, and get back on their feet. This return home is their "down time" and we're heartbroken knowing they will be spending this time rebuilding.
Farming is one of the most labor-intensive jobs. Their hard work allows us to have food on the table all year long. In all honesty, they keep our farm going. It is our hope that we can all come together as a community to show appreciation for their hard work. If you can, please help them in this very serious time of need.
Sincerely,
Joe O'Grady
