Help our horses!

As many of you know I'm on the board for Belos Cavalos. We are a non-profit that offers healing through horses for children who have been victims of trauma. Due to the crazy fires in Sonoma, CA we have had to evacuate staff and horses and it looks like it may be months before we will be able to move everyone back home (horses and humans). Here is a message from our board. Thank you for taking the time to read this. The funds will go directly to care of the horses, many of which are older gents and need special care. Belos Cavalos isalready out $48,000 in funds due to this tragedy. Thank you and God bless you.  Every bit helps our sweet horses. Belos Cavalos

Dear friends,

It doesn’t seem possible that it was ten days ago that we evacuated Belos Cavalos as flames shot through the air and down the mountains. We want to update everyone, but first, we want to express how GRATEFUL we all are for the thousands and thousands of firefighters, police, EMT’s and the public that have come to the aid of these devastating fires that have affected this community. They say, “The love in the air is thicker than the smoke, ” and that rings true.

We evacuated all the horses as well as Sylvia Zerbini’s horses to safety (Saturday was supposed to be the night of our big fundraiser "Dancing with Horses" with Sylvia). The Belos Cavalos horses stayed at the Sonoma fairgrounds on Monday and Tuesday.( Again, an amazing group of volunteers helping those who evacuated with their animals. Many of the people had lost everything. Their homes burnt to the ground.) We settled the horses in, but after a recommendation from our veterinarian @NorthBayEquine we decided to relocate to a private stable in West County. This is much safer for them as the opportunity for disease and sickness can spread when so many animals are sheltered together. The horses have been gallant about this. They love seeing the volunteers and familiar faces that are coming to visit and are affectionate more than ever. They greet us and nuzzle us with love.

Some of them are quite old and rescue horses from Katrina, ex- race horses and polo horses that are great with the kids for the trauma programs we do. So we are really in a hard place because we have 10 homeless horses and a center that ironically provides relief for children that are entering foster care or suffering from other trauma.

Back at our Beautiful Terra De Belos Cavalos the fires are still present and we are considered a hot spot. Because of our location many of the firefighters have used our stable as a central command center. We don’t know how long this will go on. We need your help NOW.  Please consider making a donation to Belos Cavalos to make sure we can incur the expenses for this program to continue until we can go back home. Thank you from the herd.

Thank you with love and gratitude to all. -The Belos Cavalos family.
