Help Our Hero: Fundraiser for James Q

Donation protected
I am writing on behalf of my father, James Q, a proud United States Navy veteran and American who has always carried himself with dignity and service. Today, he is facing severe medical and financial challenges that place him at risk of losing his home.

My father has been in declining health for some time due to complications from diabetes and other issues. He has recently undergone his third major surgery, during which doctors amputated half of his left foot. These serious medical hardships have left him unable to fully manage his affairs, and as a result, he has fallen behind on his property taxes.

In addition to his military service, my father has always been a hard worker and community contributor. Beyond his career, my father has been a pillar of the community. Years ago, he created and ran a roller hockey league for the kids of Brookhaven. At its height, the league had 12 to 16 full teams — giving local youth a positive outlet, bringing families together, and building bonds in the neighborhood that still last to this day. He has also organized and led countless fundraisers, raising thousands of dollars to support important causes. These efforts included helping Bravo Ambulance Company in New York, the Guild Center for Disabled Children, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, among others. His leadership and generosity have touched many lives.

For the past 30 years, my father has also played Santa Claus every Christmas Eve, visiting at least 10 different families each year — never asking for anything in return, simply bringing joy, magic, and kindness to others. That is the type of person my dad is: someone who gives of himself freely to make the lives of others brighter. The children in our community growing up always had a place to play sports like baseball, softball, basketball, football, and hockey. Our home was a second home to many in the community, a safe place.

My father is not only a disabled veteran, but also a man who has given so much of himself to others. Losing his home at this time would cause irreparable harm to his health, stability, and well-being. We are committed to working toward a solution to bring his taxes up to date, but we urgently need understanding and support during this very difficult period.

Thank you for your time, understanding, and compassion in helping out in any way you can. Any little bit helps!
