Help our Healthcare Hero battle Cancer

Dear Friends and Community,

We are reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for support. Edgar Duenes, a dedicated healthcare assistant at FernDean Nursing Home for the past two years, is bravely battling kidney cancer once again. Edgar's story is one of resilience, hope, and unwavering dedication to helping others, and now he needs our help.

Edgar was born in Mexico in 1978 and worked as a nurse in his home country for over 13 years. In 2012, Edgar lost one of his kidneys to Cancer. Despite this setback, he continued his journey, determined to make a difference in his community.

In 2022 he made the courageous decision to move to Ireland in search of a better life.

In the same year, an MRI revealed a small cyst in Edgar's remaining kidney. This cyst was monitored by his medical team in Ireland. Unfortunately, by November 2023, the mass had doubled in size, and a biopsy confirmed the presence of cancer. Edgar was given the devastating news that his only option here would be to remove his remaining kidney, a prospect that fills him with fear and anxiety. Losing his last kidney would mean a life dependent on dialysis.

However, Edgar has not lost hope. Through extensive research and determination, he discovered an alternative treatment at Frankfurt University Hospital in Germany. This innovative approach involves transarterial chemoembolization to reduce the tumor size, followed by cryoablation to preserve the remaining kidney tissue. This treatment offers Edgar a chance to maintain his quality of life and avoid dialysis.

The cost of this life-saving treatment is €15,000, and Edgar needs our help to make it possible. As someone who has dedicated his life to caring for others, now is the time for us to care for him.
